Settings to install WordPress and do it first – general settings
When you install WordPress and access the management screen, you will first be surprised at its huge settings.
WordPress is a huge web system that now has 30% share of websites around the world. It is being developed daily for security updates and function additions by volunteers, and it has been upgraded. However, WordPress can easily build a web with high functionality and high design even for general amateurs. Welcome to the world of WordPress, so I would like to explain the first setting first.
Set up site names and catchphrases
Think about and set your site name and tagline with a catchy and easy-to-understand name. If you are trying to operate WordPress with your own domain, I think that the concept of a website is in your head to some extent when you acquire a domain. Let's embody that image and drop it into the site name and tagline.
Site names are also important in search engines
Site names are important. This is because it is an item displayed in search results of search engines such as Google.
If the site name is inconsistent with the content in the site, it will be difficult for users to appear at the top of the search when they search by keyword, resulting in less access from search engines. Make it a site name that matchs the concept of the website with the site name. By making the site name easy for users to recognize and remember, there is a high possibility that they will search for the site name as a keyword.
Catchphrases are site-wide descriptions
Catchphrases are used for items such as the site description of html metadiscription on the top page, displayed at the top of the entire site depending on the theme of WordPress, and used in heading tags h2 tags, etc.
Therefore, it's a good way to decide on a tagline that's sprinkled with keywords that you want users to search for to some extent. Originally, it is preferable not to use such a theme because the theme used for the heading h2 tag without permission is wrong as the design to make the theme. This catchphrase is also important in SEO.
WordPress address and site address settings
As shown in the figure above, there are two items to set the address in WordPress.
- WordPress address (URL)
- The WordPress address (URL) is the address where the WordPress file was installed.
- Site address (URL)
- The site address (URL) is the address when you enter the URL from the address field of the browser and access it.
Usually, I think that both the WordPress address and the site address are the same address as shown above.
In the normal installation, ftp upload and automatic installation of the rental server, wordpress installation is described in the way of installing in the top directory, so the top page of https://webpginfo.net and the domain is the address.
Set up an email address
Email address settings. In the figure above, I hide it, but I enter the email address newly created when I actually installed your email address or WordPress by myself.
If you enter your email address in this field, you will receive an email notification from WordPress when the post is commented or linked depending on your settings. In addition, if you change this email address, you will receive a notification email to check the integrity of the changed email address. It is a sobering, but it is a fairly important position item.
Set up memberships
WordPress allows multiple people to post articles and edit themes. Therefore, it has a user management function that allows you to issue individual IDs and passwords to each user.
It is a security issue that anyone can register as a user, so let's uncheck here. User registration and management are performed separately in the "User" item in the left menu. The default permission group for new users can also change permissions from the User Administration screen, so leave this item as Subscribers.
- Site language
- Date format
- Time format
- The beginning of the week
You don't need to make any changes to the above items, but the date format and time format will be reflected in the post, so change it to the format you prefer.
Finally, don't forget to press the Save Changes button to save the contents.
This was the description of the general settings.
